Biologisch afbreekbaar plastic is plastic dat op een natuurlijke wijze vergaat.

Niet alle biologisch afbreekbaar plastics zijn bioplastic, en niet alle bioplastic zijn biologisch afbreekbaar.

Hoewel biologisch afbreekbaar plastic grotendeels gemaakt is van plantaardige producten, zijn er ook biologisch afbreekbaar plastics gemaakt van petrochemische producten.^[1]
