Theatro Technis
Theatro Technis is een theaterlocatie in Noord-Londen, bekend van oud-Grieks drama, [1] biedt een platform voor het bezoeken van producties in vreemde talen,[2] toneelstukken wat die Brits-Cypriotische Griekse gemeenschap beïnvloeden,[3] en voor het hosten van het Londen Grieks filmfestival[4]
Geschiedenis en producties[bewerken]
Opgericht door George Eugeniou in 1957 samen met een groep Cypriotische Griekse kunstenaars om de behoeften van de Grieks-Cypriotische gemeenschap te dienen [5] dit in eigen beheer produceren van theater, naast het hosten van bezoekende producties, is een vast onderdeel geworden van het multiculturele theaterlandschap van Londen
Oude Griekse drama's uitgevoerd in opdracht van Theatro Technis omvatten:Lysistrata, Prometheus Bound,[6] Oh Democracy!, Medea,[7][8][9] Bacchae, Oedipus bij Colonus, De Perzen, Zeven tegen Thebe, De Fenicische vrouwen, Antigone, en Kikkers ' [10]
Toneelstukken wat sociale en politieke kwesties die de lokale Cypriotische gemeenschap raken, zijn onder meer:Bloody Guarantors, One in Seven ,The Vandals Are Coming, Dowry with Two White Doves, Afrodite Unbound,[11] The National Engagement,[12] A Revolutionary Nicknamed Rosevelt,[13] The Best of Tofias, Contract, Hands Tied, Tied Hand, Gringland, Searching for the Lemons, The Fire Burns where it Falls, en Two Lives and Cyprus Trilogy.[14]
Theatergezelschappen bezoeken:uitvoeringen in vreemde talen van `La Casa de Bernada Alba` , `Le Petit Prince` en werk van het Japanse bedrijf Mugensha Theatre dat verklaarde; 'Theatro Technis heeft ons geboekt. De oprichter, George Eugeniou, is een Cyprioot, dus ik denk dat hij sympathiek stond tegenover buitenlandse dramaturgen zoals wij.[15],klassiekers zoals 'De drie zussen' en 'Oom Vanya 'van Chekov,'De droom van een midzomernacht' en 'Koning Lear' van Shakespeare, 'Tartuffe' van Moliere[16]. Hedendaagse Britse toneelstukken bevatten politieke satire, waaronder The Madness of George Dubya ,beoordeeld door Michael Billington (criticus) van The Guardian:"Satire is all but dead on the London stage, so this show by Justin Butcher deserves the warmest of welcomes..... it had a packed house at this north London fringe theatre cheering it to the echo....what Butcher captures well is the insanity of a situation where, by making a military strike against terror, we actually increase its likelihood".[17]
